The Snipers Net started in the early 1970's. Three Amateur Radio Operators at different locations on Kodiak Island would turn on their radios in the evening and check in with each other to make sure everything was OK… The group grew to become a Net in Alaska and has been on the air continuously, every night , seven days a week since February 24, 1973. It now holds the distinction of being the oldest continuous Net in the state of Alaska. The name 'Snipers' was chosen because often members would pick on or make fun of each other. As the group grew in size they found themselves handling formal / informal traffic and phone patches for other people in the state. A Roll Call Net was established and has been operating ever since. The Snipers Net meets every day at 6PM local Alaska Time on 3920 kHz. Although it is a Roll Call Net, visitors from any part of the world are encouraged to check in after the Roll has been called. We handle emergency and 3rd party traffic along with just getting people together who want to chat. Anyone may request to be added to the Roll. New members are added on the first of each month. It only takes 7 check-ins a month to remain on the roster. If you have any questions about the net or its operation feel free to contact us.
